It’s The Team

It has taken over 8 years and dealing with some rather serious personnel issues to arrive at the point where the BluWater team is working like a well oiled machine. The reasons for not hitting our stride earlier in our 9 years are many and complex.  I would say that the biggest lesson learned for us was how we go about our hiring now verses our formative years.  We are very focused on team fit.  An individual can have all the success and achievement in their career, but how they may have obtained their success may not fit with our team.  Yes, BluWater is growing up and it feels awesome!

Another way to say this is that if a person remains an individual and is in this business for personal gain and recognition in of itself; they are not a fit for our organization.  The basics of this idea prove out in the simplest of projects in our business.  Whether it is staffing, consulting, delivery or back office, all functions are dependent on the other. Without the dependency on the four functions of our business, you’ll have negative influences created by conflicts of interest.   This will cause the company to become disfunctional and distracted by the smallest details. I have seen countless projects and opportunities lost because an individual is seeking to go it alone.

Team cooperation and building a team is so much common sense. I am humbled every day by those that have done it better than I have. I am thankful to have the opportunity to learn this and the myriad of other fun facts in this business every day.  I guess this is one of the reasons I love what we do as a team here at BWC.

New Year In Sight

So it’s been awhile, let me see.  So looking at 2009, things are starting to take shape for the consulting business here in Seattle.  The last two months have been very quiet for us.  Our clients simply pressed the pause button on their project and staffing work.  In the same breath, a number of large firms are cutting really deep.  WAMU, Boeing, BAE, the list continues to grow.  Regardless, critical projects will go on.  From a resource perspective a number of highly talented IT and Sales professionals are now available and more willing to look at other opportunities.

I am still very concerned about 2009.  While I see some brilliant things in our pipeline, I can’t help but to hold my breath a little.

Our staff has really kicked up their activity over the last few months.  I am amazed by their efforts in terms of sales and relationship building.  I can say the group takes pride in our firm and they truly do care about our clients and consultants.
